Lorne W. Hahn, 86, of Aurelia, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Lorne was born February 18, 1926, in Cherokee, to Dan and Ethel (Stewart) Hahn. He attended country school in Cherokee and Plymouth Counties and High school at Quimby Consolidated Schools. He married first Alice Bugh and later Janet Volkert in 1959. Lorne worked at various businesses including Bruce Implement in Aurelia, Cities Service in Cherokee, Thermo-Gas in Cherokee and Storm Lake, the Citgo Service Station, and Larson Oil in Storm Lake. In addition, he served as Chief of Police in Alta in the 1970s, retiring in 1983. Lorne lived in Storm Lake from 1960 until 1969, in Alta from 1970 until 1990, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, for two years, in Newell from 1992 until 1999, and in Aurelia since 2000. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. He enjoyed woodworking, doing work for family, and making gifts for special people. He also enjoyed gardening and loved tinkering with and fixing anything.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his god-child, Lori Sokolowski; a sister and brother-in-law, Marvel and Dr. Elmer Pick; a brother, Donald Hahn; and a brother-in-law, Gene Clymens.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, and his children: Barry (Julie) Hahn, of Alta, Rebecca (Brad) Tesch, of Columbus, Georgia, Cynthia (Rob) Germann, of Wall Lake; Nadine Chapman, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Amy Hahn, and her special friend, Richard "Rick" Bohler, of Cape Coral, Florida, and Karin (Nick) Breedveld, of Otsego, Michigan; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Mary) Hahn, of Cherokee, and his sister Delores Clymens, of Aurelia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will held be Monday, March 5th, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, Pastor Don Rothweiler officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 4th, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home with the family present from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee at a later date.
