Lowell Fields, age 67, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died February 27, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Lowell Gene Fields was born December 22, 1944, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Bradley and Leona (Bauman) Fields. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Royal, Iowa, where he was later confirmed.

Growing up, Lowell attended school in Royal, graduating from Royal High School in 1962. From 1966 – 1970, he served in the Iowa National Guard.

Lowell was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. He was a member of the ARC Organization, Storm Lake Garden Club, and a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. He helped promote the Justice to Our Neighbors Program and organize the Free Legal Immigration Clinic as well as other community activities.

An ESL instructor at Iowa Central Community College, Lowell also owned and operated Storm Lake Roofing. A foster parent for fourteen years, he adopted two of the children. Proud of his role as a foster parent, Lowell received the Foster Parent of the Year Award in Iowa and the Dan Chavez – Beyond the Horizons ESL Teacher of the Year Award.

Lowell loved gardening and camping. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico. In his spare time, he attended different area churches where he spoke about the Justice to Our Neighbors Program.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughters: Angela Dawn Fields, of Des Moines, Iowa, Renee Ann (Mike) Drottz, of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Rachel Alice (Scott) Krier, of Aurelia, Iowa; his grandchildren: Isaiah, Jacob, and Jessica Drottz, of Mitchellville, Iowa, Aaron, Alicia, and Anthony Krier, of Aurelia, Iowa, his step grandson, Santiago Moral; his sisters: Linda (Bob) Nelson, of Webb, Iowa, Elaine (Friend, Bob Cuttsinger) Ullensvang, of Sacramento, California, LaVonne (Jeff) Hallberg, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lynette (Jeff) Whitacre, of Estherville, Iowa; his nieces and nephews: Brian (Stephanie DePrisco) Whitacre, and Brice Whitacre, of Phoenix, Arizona; Jenny (Jason) Ommen, of Estherville, Iowa, Thomas (Christin) Ullensvang, of Sacramento, California, Brad (Keri) Hallberg of Fort Mill, South Carolina; Stacey (Cade Calder) Nelson, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jason Hallberg, of Jacksonville, Alabama, and Brooke (Craig) LaFarr, of Omaha, Nebraska; as well as numerous extended family members and many friends.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Bradley E. and Leona G. Fields; as well as his nieces, Heather and Jill Nelson.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., March 01, 2012, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., March 02, 2012, at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: March 02, 2012, at the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa.
