Iva L. Boothby
October 27, 1918 - February 11, 2012

Iva (Baker) Boothby, age 93, of Marathon, Iowa, died Saturday, February 11, 2012, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

Iva Lucille Meyer, the daughter of Albert and Ada (Zimmerman) Meyer was born three miles west of Marathon on the family farm on October 27, 1918. She had six brothers and two sisters. Iva was baptized on September 26, 1926, at the Marathon United Methodist Church where she has been a seventy-five year lifelong member. She received her education at the Marathon Consolidated School.

In April of 1943, Iva married Paul Baker in San Diego, California. They were blessed with four children: Sharon, Pauline, Roberta, and Robert. Following Paul’s honorable discharge, they made their home in Marathon. Iva worked for the Philly Cream Station for thirteen years, the Superior Factory for seven years, and Mefford Industries in Laurens for sixteen years, retiring in 1981. After Paul died in 1974, Iva married Robert Boothby of Laurens in 1981 and they enjoyed years of working on wood crafts and traveling extensively. Bob died in 1997.

Also known as “Doctor Mom,” Iva has been a helping friend to many throughout the years. She enjoyed researching family history and had collected decades of trivia about the Meyer’s, Baker’s, and Boothby families. She also enjoyed doing embroidery work and quilting projects which have become the beautiful treasured heirlooms she has passed on to her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Pauline (Chuck) Walker, of Spencer, Iowa, and Robert (Vicki) Baker, of Spencer, Iowa; her son-in-law, Don (Karol) Siepker, of Albert City, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and four step-children; as well as many nieces; nephews; cousins; other extended family; and many friends.

Iva was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands: Paul and Robert; two daughters, Sharon Meyer and Roberta Siepker; six brothers; two sisters; two great grandchildren; one stepson; and many, many friends. Iva has truly left years of loving memories in all of our hearts.

Memorials may be given in Iva’s memory to the Marathon United Methodist Church or the Marathon Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
