Thomas Lee Robbins
August 2, 1937 - December 24, 2011

Thomas Lee Robbins passed away December 24, 2011, in Cedar Rapids. Tom battled COPD for ten years, but being fiercely independent, he remained in his own home until spending his last few hours in hospice.

Tom was born in Storm Lake on August 2, 1937, to Marion and Marvel Johnson Robbins. He grew up in the Storm Lake-Alta area, graduating from Alta High School in 1955. He then attended Tampa University and the University of South Dakota.

Tom spent the majority of his working years in the meat packing industry where he was active in the labor union. He championed workers' rights, especially regarding work related injuries and published a paper on that subject. He was passionate about politics and loved to debate. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working on cars and other mechanical equipment.

After retiring from Hygrade and Wilsons, Tom attended Kirkwood Community College earning associate degrees as a paralegal and in industrial automation.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved grandparents and several loving aunts and uncles. He is survived by his sons, Charles, Steve, and Dan; his sisters, Cindy Nelson and Lois Sutton; his brother, Artie Sutton; his stepfather, Art Sutton, his former wife, Peggy Robbins; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
