August 30, 1912 - January 12, 2005

Franklin L. Prunty, 92, of Sioux City and formerly of Storm Lake, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Indian Hills Nursing & Rehab Center in Sioux City following a lengthy illness.

Franklin was born on August 30, 1912, at Cleghorn to Albert and Ethel (Hoke) Prunty. He married Vera Zoch on October 8, 1941, at Cherokee. After farming near Marcus for twenty-five years, he moved to Storm Lake in 1966. For eleven years, he worked in the maintenance department at the Buena Vista County Hospital, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. He enjoyed fishing, boating and tinkering with anything that needed fixing. He had been a resident of Sioux City for the past five years. Previously, he had lived in Perry for one and one half years and Storm Lake for thirty-two years. Originally, he was from the Marcus area.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera, on November 7, 1973; two brothers and two sisters, Cyril Prunty, Kenneth Prunty, and his wife, Evelyn, Winifred Swanson, and her husband, Melvin, and Edna Woltman, and her husband, Harold.

He is survived by his four children: Betty Nelson, and her husband, Ron, of Cherokee, Jerry Prunty, and his wife, Susanna, of Perry, Judy Prunty, of West Des Moines, and Mark Prunty, and his wife, Cyndy, of Yankton, South Dakota; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Franklin Prunty will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Church of Christ in Cherokee. Pastor Gary Swick will officiate. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake. There will be a family prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the church on Saturday.
