Leah Faye Sanderson, the daughter of George and Josephine Monson Johnson, was born June 15, 1921, in Sioux Rapids. Leah received her early education at Cornell Consolidated School and graduated from the Sioux Rapids High School. She then attended Buena Vista University where she earned a teaching degree. She began teaching at Washington No. 6 in Buena Vista County and later taught in the Webb and Sioux Valley schools.

On June 27, 1943, Leah married Donald Sanderson in Sioux Rapids. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Webb area for forty years. In 1984, they moved to Spencer.

She was also a member of the Federated Club in Webb. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and reading. She also enjoyed oil painting and making handcrafted personalized birthday cards and bookmarks for her family and friends. Most of all, however, she loved spending time with her family.
