Kathleen "Kate" Vanderhoff, age 46, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died Thursday, December 15, 2011.

Kathleen “Kate” Babb was born April 2, 1965, in Moorhead, Minnesota, the daughter of Hal and Karen (Cook) Babb. Growing up, Kate was baptized at the Methodist Church in Bruce, South Dakota, in 1971, and in 1979, she was confirmed at the Congregational Church in Bryant, South Dakota. She attended school in South Dakota, graduating from Hamlin High School in 1984.

On November 11, 1994, Kate married James “Jim” Vanderhoff in Newell, Iowa.

Kate was a volunteer for the Special Youth Challenged. She enjoyed gardening, puzzles, crafts, and craft shows. Kate loved being outdoors, especially when four wheeling, hunting, and fishing. She had a love for animals and enjoyed horses and bird watching. Kate loved her family and treasured spending time with grandchildren and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, James “Jim” Vanderhoff, of Linn Grove, Iowa; her parents: Karen and Dennis Forthman, of Carthage, South Dakota, and Hal and Audrey Babb, of Plentywood, Montana; her mother-in-law, Ethel Crowley, of Newell, Iowa; her stepchildren: Jason (Michele) Vanderhoff, of Newell, Iowa, Jennifer (Kurt) Kruse, of Newell, Iowa, and Jodi (Alex) Rojas, of Fonda, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jaron and Jaicee Vanderhoff, Chelsee and Reed Kruse, and Maggie, R.J., and A.J. Rojas; her sister, Pam (Brian) Palmer of Mesa, Arizona; her stepsister, Cindi (Brent) Hurst, of Montana; her brother-in-law, Jack (Karla) Vanderhoff, of Newell; her sisters-in-law: Joyce (Dana) Haahr of Newell, Iowa, and Jan (Mike) Dick, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her nephew, Tristan Palmer, of Mesa, Arizona; and her great nieces and nephews as well as extended family and many friends.

Kate was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her father-in-law, Vernerd “Bud” Vanderhoff.

Visitation: 4:00-8:00 p.m., December 20, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., December 21, 2011, at the Riverside Church in Linn Grove, Iowa.
Interment: December 22, 2011, at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Clare, Iowa.
