Donald Lee Kerns
March 14, 1938 - December 6, 2011Monday, December 12, 2011
Donald Lee Kerns, age 73, passed from this earthly life to his eternal home in heaven on Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
Don was born March 14th, 1938, in Rolfe, to Fred and Gertie (Peterson) Kerns. He was baptized on April 17th, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rolfe. He renewed his baptism by the rite of Confirmation on June 1st, 1952, at Grace Lutheran in Marathon. He received his education and graduated from High School in 1956 at Marathon.
Don married Barbara Ann Hanson on Dec 27th, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. This union was blessed with two children, Debra and Jason.
Once a farmer, Don worked for several years for the Farm Service Co. of Iowa, but his gifted knowledge and love of cars led him to his true calling: that of an "honest and dependable" car salesman. He worked for many years for Fitzpatrick's Chevrolet and Buick out of Storm Lake. After leaving Iowa and moving to Lakeview, Arkansas, in 1992, Don continued to work as a car salesman. At one time, he owned and operated his own used car lot and car wash in Bull Shoals, Arkansas. When his health began to fail in 2002, he retired and moved to Mountain Home. He enjoyed fishing, watching professional football, and using his computer. He, however, especially cherished time spent with his family and treasured friends. He was a faithful and devoted member of his church, Holy Cross Lutheran.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Debra, and her husband, Kurt Blum, of Fort Collins, Colorado; and his son, Jason, and his wife, Laurie Kerns, of Henderson, Nevada. Also left to morn his passing are his pride and joy, his seven grandchildren: Alex, Andrew, Adrianne, and Austin Blum and Katherine, Candace, and Christopher Kerns. He leaves his brother, Jim, and his wife, Carol Kerns, of Springfield, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Kerns, of Midway, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, Kaye and Kyle, Jon, Paul, Michelle and Jennifer, Steve, Scott, Rachel, Todd, Trent, and Tory and Tasha. His joyful disposition, good humor, and infectious smile will be missed by his family and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Gertie Kerns, and his brother, Bill.
Arrangements are by the Kirby & Family Funeral and Cremation Services. Visit an online obituary and guestbook at www.kirbyandfamily.com .
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12th, 2011, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas, with Pastor Marillyn Schultz officiating.
