Chlorinne "Chlo" Stull
August 11, 1916 - December 01, 2011

Stratford, Iowa

Chlorinne "Chlo" Stull, age 95, of Stratford, Iowa, and formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 1, 2011, in Stratford, Iowa.

Chlorinne Maxine (Owen) Stull was born on August 11, 1916, in Rockwell City, Iowa, to Orville and Minnie (Staton) Owen.

She was baptized into the Church of Christ at the age of 12 and, as a girl, learned to play the piano and violin and to dance. She began dancing with her father, took tap dancing lessons, and settled on a man from Storm Lake, Gail Stull, as her partner for the next sixty years. They married in May of 1939, settled in Storm Lake, and danced to every big band within range.

After a year at Iowa State Teacher’s College, Chlo graduated from Buena Vista College in the midst of the Great Depression and took a job as a primary teacher in the Lincoln-Lee Township School near Nemaha. After marrying Gail, she also began a ten year stint as “Mrs. Girl Scout,” beginning with the Brownies and ending with that group as Senior Girl Scouts. She also served as a Council President and a leader trainer.

Throughout her life, Chlo enjoyed sewing. In her fifties, she made over 700 dolls, many of them Raggety Ann and Andy, which found their way into Christmas stockings at this time of year. She also made hundreds of ties, particularly the white ones, when they were the craze.

A member of the Rebekah Lodge in Storm Lake for nearly fifty years, Chlo served in many leadership roles within that organization. An avid bird-lover, she also enjoyed watching her feathered "charges" at the feeder.

Even as her health failed, she kept her devout faith in God through Jesus Christ, a faith which she learned as a child and passed on to her family. She had a kind and gentle heart and will be missed by those she leaves behind.

Chlo is survived by a son, Gordon, and his wife, Cindy, of Randall; a granddaughter, Casey, of Roland; and her new great granddaughter, Aalyiah; as well as a host of friends.
