William "Bill" Wobbema, age 65, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died December 2, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
William Wobbema was born on January 22, 1946, in Orange City, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Irene (Tamminga) Wobbema. Growing up, Bill was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. Currently, he was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake where he was an Elder.
Bill attended and graduated from Hull Western Christian School in 1964. Following high school graduation, he worked at Hatz Meat Market in Alton, Iowa, Gary’s Market in Orange City, Iowa, Smit and Son in Boyden, Iowa, and then at Sioux Preme Packing in Sioux Center. While working at Sioux Preme, he began attending Briar Cliff Weekend College in Sioux City where he graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology/Sociology. He then began his career in the alcohol and drug field as a counselor and treatment director, first working in out-patient treatment in Sioux County and then moving into in-patient treatment in Sioux City at the Marion Health Center. Bill was then hired to set up and supervise a new treatment center at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. After four years there, he was asked to set up and supervise the Synergy Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
On November 12, 1968, Bill married Judy Van De Brake at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They were blessed with three children: Stephanie, Jeffrey, and Andrew.
Bill spent countless hours outside of work helping anyone who needed him. After thirteen working years in chemical dependency, he began a new career as a Human Resources Director at the Faith, Hope and Charity Children’s Home in Storm Lake. He fell in love with the children and cherished the moments he could bring a smile to their faces. His job there also developed into an IT position, and he loved working on computers, both his own and for others. After fourteen years with Faith, Hope and Charity, Bill retired in January of 2011.
In his spare time, Bill enjoyed boating. He loved and cherished his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
