Opal L. Waldron, 88, of Alta, passed away at her home on Wednesday evening, November 9, 2011.
Opal was born on November 13, 1922, to Arlie and Melva (Crippen) Nordstrom at Cherokee. She attended school in Cherokee, graduating in 1940. Following graduation, she attended Chillicothe College in Chillicothe, Missouri, for one year. She married Glenn Waldron on April 2, 1944, in Cherokee. Opal worked at Napier Stationary in Cherokee, at the Lewis Hotel as a desk clerk, and as a secretary at the Church of Christ in Cherokee and Alta, retiring in 1964. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Alta. Opal enjoyed needle work and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; her son, Richard Waldron; and her great-grandson, William "Billy" James Bainbridge.
Opal is survived by her daughter, Melva Bainbridge, and her husband, Bill, Sr., of Alta; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; her siblings: Oliver Nordstrom, of Stillwater, Minnesota, Charles (Darlene) Nordstrom, of Champaign, Illinois, Ruth Mahn, of Storm Lake; and Lois Thompson, of Bixby, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor Kevin Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m., Saturday morning, at the funeral home.
