Bonnie Veskrna
[January 10, 1928]* - November 12, 2011

Bonnie B. Veskrna, age 83, of Albert City, Iowa, died November 12, 2011, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Bonnie Veskrna was born Bonnie B. Boyanovsky to Anna (Scott-Garton) and Frank Boyanovsky on a farm 3 ˝ miles northeast of Albert City, Iowa. She had one older brother, Boyd.

Bonnie attended country school through the eighth grade and then high school at Albert City before transferring to Laurens, Iowa, in her junior year when her family moved to town. She played basketball, sang in the girls’ glee club, participated in the junior class play, and was the typist for the Laurentian year book. After school activities included learning the accordion and working at the ‘five & dime’.

She met her future husband, Louis Veskrna, at a gathering on the Frank and Lottie Garton farm where he was working. Louis had been following the harvest as a farm laborer after graduating from high school at Ulysses, Nebraska, and had worked his way through North Dakota and Minnesota before reaching Marathon, Iowa.

When the war broke out, Louis enlisted in the U. S. Navy. Bonnie and he began a long V-Mail correspondence resulting in their marriage on June 9, 1945, in Sioux City, Iowa, where Bonnie was attending secretarial business school. Louis returned to duty and Bonnie followed him to California. At war’s end, Louis was discharged and the couple moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and then later to Laurens where they lived with Bonnie’s parents before moving to a farm 1 ˝ miles Northeast of Albert City. There they were to spend the rest of their lives. Bonnie had worked as a secretary until moving to the farm.

Two sons were born to Bonnie and Louis, Terry, on June 14, 1947, and Rodney, on September 27, 1951.

Bonnie enjoyed socializing while eating out. She always had a soft spot for small animals, especially cats.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Boyanovsky, and brother, Boyd Boyanovsky.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of sixty-six years, Louis; her sons, Terry, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Rodney, of Albert City, Iowa, and a host of extended family and friends.

Bonnie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
