Betty M. Pace, age 86, of Alta, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Betty Maxine (Mitchell) Pace was born on February 15, 1925, to Margaret Huisman and Charles Mitchell in Prairie City, Iowa. Betty was graduated from North High School in Des Moines and married Floyd Pace in May of 1944. This past spring Betty and Floyd celebrated sixty-seven years together.
Betty studied Library Science and Spanish at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and served as city librarian for Alta, Iowa, for twenty years. Reading, gardening, traveling, and most of all, family were her favorite pastimes. She kept special memories of the three months she spent in South America with her husband and of their trips to China, Canada, and Mexico.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, and a brother, Ray. She is survived by a son, Michael (Gail), and a daughter Kathleen (Mark) Sorbe; her grandchildren: Timothy (Kari) Limbert, Nicholas (Roxanne) Pace, Michael Koth, Nicholas (Cali) Sorbe, and Adam Sorbe; her great-grandchildren: Sienna and Adison Pace and Peter and Johnathon Limbert; and a sister, Delora Hodges.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Dr. Floyd A. and Betty Pace Memorial Scholarship Fund for aspiring teachers of modern languages at Buena Vista University. Memorials may be sent to: 902 Lakeshore Dr., Lakeside, IA 50588

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., November 08, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: November 08, 2011, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta, Iowa.
