Donna Jean Stabelfeld, age 80, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in Storm Lake.
Donna Jean Van Slyke was born on March 15, 1931, in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of Hugh Edward and Ethel Mae (White) Van Slyke. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Growing up, she received her education in Fonda where she graduated in 1948.
On February 11, 1954, Donna married Elvin F. Stabelfeld in Ida Grove, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Deborah Anna, Dawn Maria, Julie Kay, and Jeffrey Joseph.
Donna was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where she was the President of the Catholic Guild and a member of the Court Margaret Mary Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
An avid reader, Donna also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. In addition, she enjoyed baking and cooking. Donna loved animals, especially her little dog, Tony, and she faithfully fed the squirrels and birds in her backyard.
Donna treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Deborah Anna (Dean) Linden, of Walnut, Iowa, Dawn (Jim) Lauck, of Apple Grove, Minnesota, Julie (Roger) Scadden, of Schaller, Iowa, and Jeffrey Stabelfeld, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her grandchildren: Kristin (Dove) Foster, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Sean (Andrea) Richardson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Daniel (Tobie) Scadden, of Muscatine, Iowa, Brandon Scadden, of Jackson, Minnesota, Ashley (Austin Beard) Scadden, of Tiffin, Iowa, Christopher Scadden, of Schaller, Iowa, Amanda Stabelfeld, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nicole Titus, of Ames, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Dallas and Hunter Richardson, Nicholas and Nathan Scadden, Paul Nyane, Peyton Beard, and Micah Gustafson; her brother-in-law, Glen Stabelfeld, of California; her sister-in-law, Virginia Porter, of California; many nieces and nephews; her little dog, Tony; her extended family and many friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Ethel Van Slyke; her husband, Elvin Stabelfeld; her sister, Darlene Stauter; her brothers, Richard and Darrell Van Slyke; and her uncles: Bob, Mert, Lyle, and Delbert White.
Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m., November 05, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
