Gerard “Jerry” Brungardt, age 71, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 4, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Jerry was born February 6, 1940, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Dr. Balthazar and Margaret (Schwerman) Brungardt. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, Kansas.
Growing up, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Salina, graduating in 1958. Very involved in church activities during his high school years, he served as president of the Catholic Youth Club for two years. An outstanding basketball player, he became captain of the state championship team his senior year. During the summers, Jerry enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers and racing cars.
Following high school, he attended St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas.
Jerry married first Michaela Berberich, and they were blessed with five sons: Tim, Jerry, Mike, Tom, and Jim. On February 27, 1997, he married Geneva Suppes in Glenwood, Iowa.
Jerry’s five sons were his true joy in life. Attending their athletic events always took priority. He loved hunting, fishing, and boating with them. He has a passion for teaching his boys how to conquer fear and how to succeed in life.
At work, Jerry was the top pharmaceutical sales representative in the country, working in the field for over thirty years.
Jerry always made time for everyone who needed help, reassurance, or just a little guidance over a bump in the road of life's journey. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Geneva Brungardt, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his sons: Tim (Julie) Brungardt, Jerry Brungardt, and Tom (Jennifer) Brungardt, all of Norfolk, Nebraska, Mike (Cathy) Brungardt, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Jim (Jenny) Brungardt, of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandchildren: Mark (Aimee), Greg (Jayln), Nicole, Kayleigh, Kara, Michaela, Jacqueline, Rachel, Kylie, Nate, Allison, Ashlyn, and Ryan Brungardt, and Hannah Anderson; his brothers: Reverend Al Brungardt, of Junction City, Kansas, Michael (Mary) Brungardt, of Baldwin, Kansas, Paul (Marg) Brungardt, of Battle Creek, Nebraska, and Anthony Brungardt, of St. Louis, Missouri; and his sister, Clare (Ray) Hoeffer, of Longview, Texas; as well as extended family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Balthazar and Margaret Brungardt; his brothers: Dr. Bernard, Dr. Tom, Dr. Joe, Francis “Dutch”, and Bill Brungardt; his sisters: Mary Buser, Agnes McDowell, Maude Hart, Theresa Taquino, Ann Dimitry, Zita Monica, and Katie Linenberger.
Visitation: 2:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m., November 07, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 1:30 p.m. with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service, November 08, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. November 07, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: November 08, 2011, at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk, Nebraska.
