Lorraine A. Warren
January 1, 1921 - October 19, 2011

Lorraine A. Warren, age 90, of Alta, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital of Council Bluffs.

The youngest of five children, Lorraine was born in Alta on January 1, 1921, to Hans Peter and Anna Marie (Henricksen) Hansen. After graduating from Alta High School in 1939, she took classes in Lake View. When World War II started, Lorraine became one of the first "Rosie the Riveters." On November 9, 1942, she married Duane Warren. They lived their entire married life in Alta.

She was baptized at the Elk Baptist Church and later became a member of Storm Lake Baptist Church. Always very active in the church, she sponsored high school juniors and seniors, taught Sunday school, and held many offices in the church.

For thirty-two years, Lorraine managed the Catalog Department at the JC Penney Store in Storm Lake. Her hobbies included crocheting, doing arts and crafts, following basketball, playing practical jokes, and entertaining family and friends. A 4-H leader and a member of the Big Sister organization, she also served as Eastern Star Worthy Matron in 1964. In addition, as caring foster parents, Lorraine and Duane supported many children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her daughter, Joanna Vidlak; her brothers, Melvin and Donald Hansen; and her sisters, Verna Stone and Esther Spurlock.

Survivors include her sons, David Warren, and his wife Janet, Bill Langfitt, and his wife, Julie; her son-in law, Ron Vidlak; her grandchildren, Lisa and Tim Reinert, David and Jenny Warren, Lori and Brian Thompson, Sarah and John Michaels, and Brian Langfitt; and her great grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Alex, Seth, Derek, Samantha, Hunter, Bella, and Margot; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lorraine will be remembered by many for her warm smile and sparkling blue eyes.

A funeral service was held on Monday, October 24, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Storm Lake with the Rev. Ryan Brandenberger officiating. Burial was at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery of Storm Lake. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of arrangements.
