Karen J. Sawvell, age 44, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Monday, October 17, 2011, at her home in Storm Lake.

Karen Jean was born March 10, 1967, to Merlin and Deloris (Delperdang) Sawvell in Cherokee, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. Karen attended school and graduated in 1986 from Willow High School in Quimby, Iowa. After graduation, she continued her education at Grand View College.

Karen was blessed with one son, Nick Sawvell.

Karen worked as a housekeeper at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake for twenty-three years, at Casey’s General Store also for twenty-three years, and at the Baymont Inn and Suites in Storm Lake. She especially enjoyed spending time with her son, Nick, and playing with her dogs.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Nick Sawvell, of Storm Lake, Iowa; a brother, Jason Sawvell, and friend, Amy, of Albert City, Iowa; sisters: Susan (Andy) Tolan, of Fonda, Iowa, JoAnn Sawvell of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Marilyn Sawvell of Fonda, Iowa; as well as extended family and many friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Merlin and Deloris; an infant sister; and brothers, Glenn Sawvell and John Sawvell.

Visitation: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. October 21, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. October 21, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
