Arlin W. "Mike" Sievers, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died October 7, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Arlin was born March 15, 1923, at Grant Township in Buena Vista County, the son of Albert and Mary (Burmeister) Sievers. On April 15, 1923, he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed on March 21, 1937. Arlin also attended grade school at Zion Lutheran School.

On March 14, 1945, Arlin enlisted in the United States Army. He, subsequently, served in the Pacific Theater during World War II until he was honorably discharged on December 8, 1946.

On August 9, 1945, Arlin married LaVone Otto at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurelia, Iowa. They were blessed with six children: Gail, Virginia, Jan, Dan, Kathy, and Pamela.

Arlin was a member of the American Legion Post 0390 of Aurelia. He was also a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church where as a Trustee, he served on the Financial Board. He was also a member of the Men’s Club.

Arlin enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He loved camping, especially making the campfire. He treasured his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, LaVone Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Gail DeMan of Alta, Iowa, Jan Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Dan (Julie) Sievers, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Pamela Smith, of Lakeside, Iowa; his son-in-law, James Scharber, of Jamestown, North Dakota; his grandchildren: Sherri (Eric) Robidoux, of Simi Valley, California, Jesse DeMan, of Alta, Iowa, Joseph (Stephanie) DeMan, of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Kristin (Trevor) Bulger, of Washougal, Washington, David (Barb) Scharber, of Bethel, Minnesota, Adam Sievers, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, Eric Sievers, of Decorah, Iowa, and Sawyer and Lydia Smith, of Lakeside, Iowa; his great grandchildren: Jon-Luc and Logan Robidoux, Balian and Elijah DeMan, Jessica and Galen Bulger, and Ethan, Gavin, Caleb and Jacob Scharber; as well as other extended family members and friends.

Arlin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Sievers; his daughters, Kathy Sievers and Virginia Scharber; and one brother, Lorenz Sievers.

Visitation: 4-8:00 p.m. October 11, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. October 12, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, Iowa.

Interment: October 12, 2011, at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
