Velda Robinson
February 23, 1918 - September 01, 2011

Storm Lake, Iowa

Velda Deloris was born on February 23, 1918, to Emmet and Florence (Baumgarner) Ford in Storm Lake, Iowa. Growing up, she attended Lakeside Presbyterian Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Velda attended school at and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1935. After high school, she continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and was a part of the graduating class of 1939.

On September 28, 1940, she married Floyd “Robbie” Robinson in Maryville, Missouri. This union was blessed with four children: Deloris, Louise, James, and Susan.

Velda worked as the librarian at the public library and church library. She was a member of book clubs, the Presbyterian Women's Alpha Group, and the sewing circle. Active in the Buena Vista Historical Society, she also served as a Harker House tour guide. A past member of Wa-Tan-Ye and the Questers, she was involved with the senior center. In her spare time, she especially enjoyed reading western novels and found interest in tracing her family history. Velda also liked to challenge her mind with crossword puzzles. She loved to travel and cherished pets.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Deloris Moriarty, of Omaha, Nebraska, Louise Bates, of Boulder, Colorado, James (Joleen) Robinson, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Susan (Tom) Smith, of Lakeside, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Betty Robinson; her grandchildren: Sean, Aron, and Shannon Moriarty; Christopher Bates; Chad, Shane and Whitney Robinson; and Abigail, Kelly and Ethan Smith; and ten great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and many friends.

Velda was preceded in death by her parents: Emmet and Florence; her husband, Robbie; her sister, Wanda Meyer; and her son-in-law, Dennis Moriarty.

Velda’s secret to long life is: a view of the lake, a good book, and a glass of red wine (maybe two, if the cat didn’t want hers). Velda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., September 06, 2011, at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Interment: September 06, 2011, at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
