Dolores Marie Helle
February 29, 1932 - August 20, 2011Dolores Marie Helle, the daughter of James and Fairy Rose (Clark) Van Cleave, was born February 29, 1932, in Yale. She passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
Dolores was raised in Yale and graduated from Yale High School in l950. After attending cosmetology school in Des Moines, she worked as a beautician in Storm Lake and then owned and operated a salon in Rembrandt.
Dolores married Leroy A. Helle on Oct. 21, 1951, in Yale. They made their home in Rembrandt for six years before moving to a farm north of Red Oak in 1962 where they lived and farmed for forty-five years. During this time, Delores also worked for the Learning Resource Center in Red Oak and Stanton.
For twenty-seven years, Dolores was an election poll worker in Montgomery County. She was a hospice volunteer and a past 4-H leader. A member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school. Involved with the Book and Quilting Clubs in Red Oak, she also enjoyed the neighborhood clubs. In 2005, Dolores and Leroy moved to Glenwood where they were active in the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy Helle, on September 19, 2006; her daughter, Sarah Kay, on May 1, l959; her son, Eric, on January 22, 2005; and her son-in-law, Kreg Greenfield.
Dolores is survived by her two daughters: Elizabeth Maas, of El Paso, Texas, and Ann Marie Greenfield, of Glenwood; four granddaughters: Annette Helle, and her partner, Duran, and Cindy Helle as well as Katherine and Kari Greenfield; her great-grandson, Dylan; her sisters: Roberta Russell, of Jamaica, Iowa, and Barbara Kipp, and her husband, Richard, of Yale; and her brother, Lee Edward Van Cleave, and his wife, Frances, of Dawson; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood with the Rev. Seth Kaiser officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Angels Touch Dementia Program.
