March 8, 1917 - November 12, 2004

Lola I. Petersen, age 87, of Albert City, died Friday, November 12, 2004, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.

Lola Irene was born on March 8, 1917, to Francis and Clara (Harrington) Putnam on a farm near Laurens. After attending country school for most of her school years, she transferred to Laurens High School where she graduated with the Class of 1934.

On July 19, 1936, Lola married George Petersen at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. They were blessed with three children: Beverly, Dwaine, and Janet.

A loving wife and devoted mother, Lola always made her family her first priority. She also worked at the Marathon school and the Laurens State Bank before retiring in the summer of 1983. A faithful member of the Marathon United Methodist Church, she played an active role in her church circle and served as president of the UMW. In her spare moments, she enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, crocheting and watching and listening to song birds. She enjoyed beautiful red cardinals the most.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Dwaine Petersen, of Spencer; her daughters, Beverly, and her husband, Eugene Sandvig, of Marathon, and Janet, and her husband, Keith Struss, of Albert City; her sister, Alta Carpenter, of suburban Chicago, Illinois; her grandchildren: Rick, and his wife, Sally Sandvig, of Spencer, Randy, and his wife Jonann Sandvig, of Rowlett, Texas, Pat, and her husband, Jeff MacGregor, of Spencer, Connie, and her husband, Larry Aronson, of Albert City, Melinda Struss of Albert City, and Robert Struss, of Albert City; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and a host of friends.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband, George; two brothers: Francis Putnam and Stacy Putnam; and two sisters: Gladys Weeks and Mary King-Kruger.

Funeral Services for Lola Petersen were held on Monday, November 15, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Marathon with Pastor David Schumann officiating. Burial was in the Poland Township Cemetery at Marathon under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Marathon.
