Norma Rohlk died Sunday, November 21, 2004, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Norma Jean Cool was born December 8, 1926, in Bowman, North Dakota, to Abraham and Natalie (Theeler) Cool. She was baptized on July 10, 1927, at the Congregational Church in Wessington Springs, South Dakota. Her father died when she was eight years old, and she moved with her family to Waterloo. She graduated from West High School in Waterloo on June 2, 1944.

She married Eldon Warren Rohlk on January 2, 1949, in the First Congregational Church in Waterloo.

The couple farmed north of Storm Lake for a few years before settling on a farm five miles south to Alta.

Norma joined the First Presbyterian Church of Alta on October 29, 1950, and was an extremely active member of the church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Elder and Moderator. She was a member of the Nokomis Study Club, Martha Circle, Daytime Circle, Birthday Club, PEO, and a card club. She also served on the board of Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her church and community involvement, Norma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Earlier in her life, she enjoyed doing ceramics and later took up cross stitching, quilting, and other handiwork. She enjoyed growing flowers in her garden and had an appreciation for music.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon Rohlk; three sons, Michael Paul, and his wife, Mary Ann Rohlk, of Cape Coral, Florida, Dale, and his wife, Christine Rohlk, of Omaha, Nebraska, Tom, and his wife, Leanne Rohlk, of Midlothian, Virginia; a daughter, Lori, and her husband, Matthias Pfeiffer, of Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Ashley Rohlk, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Courtney Rohlk, of Atlanta, Georgia, Joshua Rohlk, of Omaha, Nebraska, Jessica, and her husband, Tony Licb, of Madison, Wisconsin, John T. Rohlk, of Omaha, Nebraska, Andrew and Rebecca Rohlk, of Midlothian, Virginia, and Max Pfeiffer, of Mesa, Arizona; two sisters, Leah Creswell, of Spirit Lake, and Doris Tharp, of Waverly; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William Paul Cool and Clifford Theeler Cool.

Funeral services for Norma Jean Rohlk were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Alta with Pastor Craig Lee officiating. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park, Storm Lake. The Barker Funeral Home in Alta was in charge of arrangements.
