Charlene Mae Minard
August 31, 1931 - June 2, 2011Charlene Mae Minard, age 79, of Alta, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the Alegent Immanuel Hospital of Omaha.
Charlene Mae Minard was born August 31, 1931, in Marshalltown, the daughter of Harold and Cecile Peterson.
She attended Peterson High School and went on to Buena Vista College, obtaining a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Malvern Elementary School until she married Lyle George Minard on July 1, 1951. They started farming together near Alta. Charlene lived on that farm for fifty years.
Charlene played an active role in her church and the community. A member of the Lady's Aid Society and the Esther Group, she also taught Sunday School and Confirmation classes at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. In addition, she enjoyed singing, playing the piano, gardening, baking, and keeping in touch with family and friends on the phone daily.
She loved spending time with her sister, Bonnie Carpenter; her cousins Bonnie and Jerry Axtell, Donnie and Jeri Axtell, and Larry and Lisa Axtell; her children, John Minard, Mary Mulvihill, Thomas Minard, Steven Minard and Nancy Minard; and her grandchildren, David Hickmon, Justin Mulvihill, Brandi Mulvihill, Kirt Minard, Bill Minard, Aaron Ritter, Heather Buchholz, and Tim Minard, who survive her.
Charlene also enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, Brandi Marie Mulvihill, Ethan Mulvihill, Brady Gustoff, Madison Minard, Ashlyn Nagg, Seth Gustoff, Emilee Boeve and her daughter, Lily Marie, Bill Jordan Minard, Ma Kayla Wilson, Kay Lynn Minard, Carson Minard, Jillian Minard, who also survive her.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cecile Peterson; her husband, Lyle George Minard, and her daughter, Susan Minard.
She had an ageless attitude. Her caring and concern for everyone in her life made the world a better place.
A funeral service was held on Monday, June 6, 2011, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Alta with the Rev. D. Duane Olson officiating. Burial was at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
