Leo Mores
October 12, 1913 - October 6, 2004Leo Mores, a longtime Iowa newspaper publisher, passed away October 6, 2004, in Harlan just six days short of his 91st birthday and two weeks to the day from the passing of his wife, Irene.
Mores joined John B. Anderson as a silent partner in purchasing the Storm Lake Pilot-Tribune in 1970 and was instrumental in managing the paper's conversion from a letterpress to an offset printing system while he worked to establish an offset printing plant at the Pilot building.
Over the years, while Mores was running the Harlan newspaper, he also served as part owner in helping several beginning publishers become established throughout the state in such cities as Avoca, Audubon, Glenwood, Guthrie Center, Pella, and Storm Lake.
He launched many respected Iowa journalists in the field and won countless journalism and community honors during his career.
He is survived by his four children, his grandchildren, and a great-grandchild along with many other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass was offered Friday, October 8, 2004, in Harlan. The family suggests that memorials may go to St. Michael's Catholic Church Foundation in Harlan, the Iowa State University Greenlee School of Journalism, or the Iowa Newspaper Foundation.
