Mary Flanigan, age 77, of Storm Lake, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mary Agnes was born December 9, 1933, at home in Early, Iowa, to Lawrence and Mary (Drey) O’Leary. She was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Early. Growing up, Mary attended grade school in Early and later graduated from Truesdale High School in Truesdale, Iowa.

On February 16, 1953, she married James E. Flanigan at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. This union was blessed with nine children: Barbara, Peg, Cindy, Mike, Colleen, Malinda, Dan, Jeffrey and Bradley.

Mary worked as a homemaker and for Buena Vista University's dining services, Sodexo. Some of her favorite pastimes included: reading, crocheting, and watching western movies. Mary had a passion for traveling and enjoyed attending sporting events.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Barbara (Dave) Hansen, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Peg (Robert) Lenz, of Rockwell City, Iowa, Cindy (Dave) Garberding, of Albert City, Iowa, Mike (Georgia) Flanigan, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Colleen (Brian) Schwanz, of Alta, Iowa, Malinda (Jim) Stein, of Kansas City, Missouri, Dan (Amy) Flanigan, of Springdale, Arkansas, Jeffrey (Michelle) Flanigan, of Andover, Kansas, and Bradley (Amie) Flanigan, of Gretna, Nebraska; her grandchildren: Terrin, Jace, and Will Hansen; Cole and Riley Lenz; Brian Garberding and Kelli Garberding (Olson); Katie and Abraham Flanigan; Wyatt and Keegan Svendsen; Dallas and Kylie Nelson; Torin, Hayley, Hunter, Makayla, Paige, and Keldy Flanigan; her great-grandchildren: Emma Grace and Olivia Hansen, Evrie Olson, Brenna Garberding; and Tilman Bern; her sister, Linda (Carl) Roxberg, of Waverly, Iowa; her brothers: John (Mary) O’Leary, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Larry (Phyllis) O’Leary, of Springfield, Missouri; as well as extended family and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James; her grandson, Keldon Flanigan; her parents, Lawrence and Mary O’Leary; an infant sister, Patricia O’Leary; and a special friend, Richard Andrews.

Visitation: 3-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m., May 31, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., June 01, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Vigil Service: 7:30 p.m. May 31, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: June 01, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
