Donald D. Winkel, age 72, of Newell, Iowa, died May 28, 2011, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.
Donald Dean Winkel was born February 7, 1939, in Sibley, Iowa, the son of John and Mary (Nightengale) Winkel. Growing up, Donald attended grade school in George, Iowa, and later Storm Lake High School.
On July 16, 1960, Donald was united in marriage to Frances Coates at the First Assembly of God Church in Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with four sons: Timothy, Daniel, Michael, and James.
Donald was a faithful member of the Faith United Assembly of God Church in Storm Lake where he served as Church Deacon. He had a passion for working for his Lord and with his church family. He was also a member of the Honorbound Men’s Group and the Teamsters.
Donald enjoyed gardening, window shopping, and Saturday morning breakfast outings with his friends. He loved nature and fishing. Donald treasured his family and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Frances Winkel, of Newell, Iowa; his sons: Timothy Winkel, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Daniel (Pamela) Winkel, of Newell, Iowa, Michael (Melissa) Winkel, of Chapman, Kansas, and James (Rhonda) Winkel, of LaFargeville, New York; his grandchildren: Joshua, Felicia, and Greta Winkel, of Newell, Iowa, Mary and Melody Winkel, of Chapman, Kansas, and Darren and Breanna Winkel, of LaFargeville, New York; and his twin brother, Rollen (Melva) Winkel, of Alta, Iowa; as well as extended family and many friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Winkel; his parents-in-law, Gilbert and Emma Coates; his step-father-in-law, Roy Buechler; and his brothers: Gene and Erenst Winkel.
Visitation: 4-7:00 p.m., June 01, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., June 02, 2011, at the Faith United Assembly of God Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
