August 9, 1929 - May 9, 2011

Monday, May 23, 2011

Conard "Chuck" T. Cooper, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday evening, May 9, 2011, with his loving wife at his side.

Conard Troy Cooper was born August 9, 1929, in Dickens, the son of Granville William Cooper and Harriet Irene Cook Cooper. He graduated from Linn Grove High School and attended Buena Vista University receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later obtained a Masters degree in Math.

Chuck had many passions including his love of all kinds of music. He was an accomplished performer both professionally (recently with the Iowa Theatre Artists Company) as well as in community theatre productions. Besides volunteering hours to the theatre, he also loved to help others through the Meals on Wheels program. Chuck was very proud of having a small-plane pilot license for more than forty years and of being a flight instructor. He enjoyed golfing as well as helping his wife Ruth; they shared a passion for reading and the Amana Library. His occupations were many and varied from owning and operating a pizza parlor and a donut shop to selling insurance.

His passion, however, was in education. He taught math, served as a school administrator, and retired as a school administrative consultant. Chuck was an accomplished high school baseball, softball, and basketball coach. A "Master of All" possessing a near photographic memory, he could build or fix almost anything (except submarines).

Chuck is survived by his wife, Ruth Mary Erickson Cooper; his sons, Michael (Patsy) Cooper, of Sacramento, California, and Kennard (Pam) Cooper, of Meridian, Indiana; three grandchildren, Stacy (Cooper) Baade, Troy Cooper and Chad Cooper; six great-grandchildren, Giovanni Betts, Ciara Betts, Braiden Betts, Brittney Betts, Chloe Baade and Tucker Baade; his sisters, Ruth Gorman, of Storm Lake, Maxine "Mickey" Rube, of Benbrook, Texas, and Geraldine "Geri" Holmes, of Escondido, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Scott and Richard Cooper, his grandson, Eric Cooper, his brothers, Charles, Eddie, Forest, and Jack Cooper and his sisters, Irene Junkemeier, Loretta Meyer, Edna Jones and Vera Roberts, and his first wife, Lucille Houdeshell Cooper.
