Donald Bell, age 96, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and formally of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at the home of his daughter in Tulsa Oklahoma.
Donald John Bell was born April 20, 1914, to John and Martha (Detloff) Bell in Pierce, Nebraska. Growing up, he attended schools in Pierce, Nebraska.
Donald spent his early years living and working on the family farm before entering the United States Army in October of 1941. He was stationed in El Paso, Texas, as a member of the 1st Cavalry Division, 7th Regiment, and was honorably discharged in August of 1943. After his discharge, Donald moved to Iowa.
On May 4, 1948, he married Verma Tillman in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This union was blessed with one daughter, Rebecca.
Donald worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for twenty-five years, retiring in 1977. Following his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed their winters in McAllen, Texas. After the death of his wife in 2004, Donald moved to Tulsa to live with his daughter and her family.
Donald was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. He was a member of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church and cherished his time spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish in his memory include his daughter, Rebecca (Timothy) Kunz, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his grandchildren: Melissa and Andrew Kunz, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his nephew, James Bell, of Rapid City, South Dakota; as well as extended family and many friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Verma; his parents, John and Martha; and his sister, Alta.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., May 24, 2011, at the Witter Chapel at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
