Lester V. Carnine, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died April 30, 2011, at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Lester Vernon Carnine was born July 6, 1915, in Newell, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Cedora (Richeson) Carnine. Growing up, Lester attended grade school in Nemaha, Iowa, and later graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, California, in 1937.

On September 14, 1940, Lester married Phyllis Ellwanger in St. Joseph, Missouri. They were blessed with two children: Leslie and Barry.

On August 22, 1944, he began serving his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 4, 1946.

On October 31, 1976, Lester married Genevieve Morris.

Lester was very active in his church. He was a charter member of the Alta Church of Christ. He loved family reunions and enjoyed watching college football, especially Penn State games.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Leslie (Linda) Carnine, of Rogers, Arkansas, and Barry Carnine, of Omaha, Nebraska; his stepchildren: Pat (Chuck) Boatman; Robert G. Francis, of Seabrook, Texas, and Trish (Dennis) Niemeier, of Galva, Iowa; his grandchildren: Wendy (John) Presson, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Thaddeus (Julie) Carnine, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jodi and Natalie Kincaid, of Des Moines, Iowa, Rachel (Chris) Swales, of Readlyn, Iowa, Michael Niemeier, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Mark Boatman, Debbie Berger, many great grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Dees, of San Diego; as well as extended family and friends.

Lester was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Ellwanger Carnine; his second wife, Jennie Morris Carnine; his parents; two brothers: Roy and Louie Carnine; his sisters: Agnes Beckfield, Neva Tuttle, and Faye Trickle.

Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m. May 02, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. May 03, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Alta, Iowa.
Interment: May 03, 2011, at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa
