Early, IowaVerlyn C. Miller, age 77, of Early, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Verlyn Clarence was born August 21, 1933, to Clarence and Edna (Christiansen) Miller in Early. Growing up, he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended school in Early and graduated with the class of 1951.
On June 27, 1965, he married Ruth James at Faith Lutheran Church in Early. Together they raised six children: Dennis, Gary, Gloria, Dave, Michelle and Mark.
Verlyn worked as a plumber and electrician for many years. He was a volunteer fireman in Early and was an all around handy man. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time fishing, trapping and hunting. He often went to sales and auctions and had a great knowledge of antique cars. Verlyn spent much of his free time fixing odds and ends and completing crossword puzzles. He cherished his dog, Tippy, who was a great companion for him. Verlyn, however, especially treasured spending time with his family and creating memories with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Dennis (Sandy) Leonard, of Jetersville, Virginia, Gary (Audrey) Leonard, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gloria (Les) Preece, of Midland, Texas, Dave (Dianne) Leonard, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Michelle Miller and Lew Boone of Midland, Texas, and Mark (Kristy) Miller, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his grandchildren: Michael Leonard, Renee Taylor, Richard Alban, Ross Leonard, Aaron Schuler, Angel Moore, Anthony Peel, Jennifer Hyson, Stephanie Orduno, Jeff Maymon, and Megan Miller; twelve great-grandchildren; and his sister: Marlys (James) Dietrich, of Emettsburg, Iowa, as well as extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Markley.
Visitation: 4-7:00 p.m. April 17, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. April 18, 2011, at Faith Lutheran Church in Early, Iowa.
