Michael J. Snedeker, Sr., age 48, of Storm Lake, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center at Sioux City.
Michael James Snedeker, Sr., the son of Noel Henry and Pauline Emma (Russell) Menard, was born at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, on March 23, 1963. Mike lived his youth and received his education at Storm Lake. He served his country in the United States Army and was affiliated with Co. A, 1st BN 8th Inf. He served part of his duty in Germany and received his honorable discharge on July 4, 1983.
Mike married Judy Vring at the United Church of Christ in Alta on March 22, 1982, and this couple was blessed with two children: Michael, Jr., and Lisa. Following their marriage, Mike and Judy lived in Germany and then resided at Fort Carson, Colorado, for a period of time following his discharge. They returned to northwest Iowa and first lived in Alta and later moved to Storm Lake.
Mike will be remembered by all who knew him as an excellent fisherman. Other special interests that Mike had were target shooting, collecting football cards and other sports memorabilia, watching television, and taking gambling trips to Emmetsburg and Sloan. He loved his three grandchildren very much and cherished the times he could spend with them.
His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family which include his wife, Judy, of Storm Lake; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael, Jr., and Jennifer, of Newell; his daughter, Lisa Snedeker of Storm Lake; his grandchildren: Katelyn, Haley, and Sydney; his brothers and sisters: Mark J. and Carol Snedeker, of Storm Lake, Jane and Bob Owen, of Memphis, Tennessee, Susie and Danny Curry, of Carroll, Joel and Angie Snedeker, of Newport, North Carolina, Sharon L. Snedeker, of Denton, Texas, Maureen and Doug Lauritsen, of Conyers, Georgia, Tom and Nancy Snedeker, of Garvin, Minnesota, Tammy and Jay Sassman, of Rembrandt, and Noel and Debra Snedeker, of Niceville, Florida; as well as other extended family and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sandra Schmidt; and his brother, William (Bill) Snedeker.
