Pearl V. Marlatt, age 85, of Newell, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell.

Pearl was born August 1, 1925, to Orson and Mary (Johnson) Fitchett in Newell. The family lived around the Newell area farming and later moved into town in 1939. Growing up, she attended school in Newell.

On November 2, 1944, she married John Marlatt in Newell. This union was blessed with six children: Mary, Carol, Murray, Terry, Roberta and Valerie. As a family, they lived in Fonda, Iowa, before moving south of Newell. After John passed away, Pearl moved into Newell, but continued and enjoyed going out to the farm to work.

Pearl was an active member of Nain Lutheran Church in Newell and served in different capacities at the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Texas where she and John spent several winters. In her free time, she liked to spend time outdoors, especially fishing, gardening, and camping. Pearl shared her talent for sewing by quilting for her grandchildren. She cherished spending time with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her children: Mary (Gene) Westbay, of Newell, Iowa, Carol (Marlowe) Timmer, of Schaller, Iowa, Murray (Lamoon) Marlatt, of Newell, Iowa, Terry (Lynn) Marlatt, of Nevada, Iowa, Roberta Wise, and her fiancé, Paul Lightfoot, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Valerie (Michael) Deal, of Pomeroy, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; her sisters: Fern Crowley, of Lakeside, Iowa, and Joyce Robbins, of Alta, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Orson and Mary Fitchett; her brothers: Ivan and Leroy Fitchett; her sisters: Doris Waterman, Ruth Arends, and Jean Banks; four brother-in-laws; two sister-in-laws; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. April 19, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. April 20, 2011, at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa.
Interment: April 20, 2011, at Newell Cemetery in Newell, Iowa
