Storm Lake, IowaMaxine B. Zubradt, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 15, 2011, at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.
Maxine Bernice Bucknam was born August 22, 1916, to Fred and Minnie (Betke) Bucknam in Sac City, Iowa. Growing up, she attended school in Sac City and was a member of the graduating class of 1935. On June 1, 1938, Maxine married L.J. “Pete” Zubradt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. This union was blessed with two children: DeAnn and Paula.
After moving to Storm Lake from Sac City in the summer of 1935, Maxine worked at various cafés. Maxine and Pete purchased the Avenue Café where they worked together. Maxine later worked for Fitzpatrick’s Chevrolet for over seven years and for three years served as a school crossing guard. Maxine also spent two years working at the Municipal Golf Course before starting work at Buena Vista College in the food services department.
Maxine enjoyed working on a variety of craft projects and was known for giving gifts of folded dollar bill rings, shirts and bowties. Maxine participated in faith study groups and was a member of St. Mary’s Guild. She cherished her faith, family, friends and walking her dogs. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish in her memory include her daughter, Paula (Ted) Neuser, of Eldridge, Iowa; her son-in-law, Ed (Jennifer) Bodaken, of South Pasadena, California; her grandchildren: Matt Bodaken, of South Pasadena, California, Amy (Pat) Howe, of Carlsbad, California, Chris (Jessica) Bodaken, of Pasadena, California; Deb (Paul) Sikorski, of Eldridge, Iowa, and Dawnelle (Paul) Middlemiss, of Gilbert, Arizona; six great-grandchildren: Jake, Megan, Dylan, Cody, Allie, and Max; extended grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Matthew, and David (Holly) Cory; as well as other extended family and many friends.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; daughter, DeAnn Bodaken; two brothers: Harold and George; and sister, Lorene Bucknam.
Visitation: 5-7:00 p.m. April 19, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. April 20, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
