LaVonne J. Anderson, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 16, 2011, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

LaVonne J. “Minnie” Browning was born January 3, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of James and Ida (Bottini) Browning. In 1957, she was baptized at Elk Baptist Church in Alta, Iowa.

Growing up, LaVonne attended grade school and later graduated from Sparks High School in Sparks, Nevada, in 1948. Following high school graduation, LaVonne furthered her education at the University of Nevada where she graduated in 1952 with a degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Nevada, Aurelia, Alta, and Rembrandt, Iowa, until she retired in 1975.

While teaching elementary school at Orvis Ring School in Reno, Nevada, in 1953, she met Dean who was stationed at Stead Air Force Base with the United States Air Force. They were united in marriage on April 12, 1955, in Jackson, Minnesota, and returned to the family farm north of Alta. They were blessed with three sons: Dan, Tim, and Jeff. They retired from farming after 44 years in 1998 and moved to Storm Lake.

LaVonne enjoyed decorating her home, teaching children, gardening, and cooking. She loved dogs, especially her dog, Mollie, and she treasured the time she spent with her family, especially while hosting family gatherings at the lake house. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Dean, of Storm Lake, Iowa; her children: Dan (Deb) Anderson, of Carrizozo, New Mexico, Tim (JoDee) Anderson, of Alta, Iowa, and Jeff (Barb) Anderson, of Warsaw, Indiana; her grandchildren: Brian (Megan) Anderson, of Geneseo, Illinois, Marcus (Katie) Anderson, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryne Anderson, of Austin, Texas, and Evan Anderson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her niece, Tina Lillard, of Sparks, Nevada; her nephews: Bruce and Brent Browning, of Reno, Nevada; and extended family and friends.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jim Browning; and her sister, Colleen Lillard.

Visitation: 5-7:00 p.m. March 20, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. March 21, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: March 21, 2011, at Elk Township Cemetery in rural Alta, Iowa.
