David Holmes
July 29, 1871 - August 17, 1940

David Holmes, 69, died at his home Saturday after, August 17, 1940. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Alta with burial in the Woodlawn cemetery.

David Holmes was born July 29, 1871, near Toulon, Illinois, the fifth of eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. George Holmes. In 1883, he came with his parents to Alta where he grew to manhood. He assisted his parents on the family farm, experiencing the events common to so many pioneer settlers.

He was united in marriage in 1869 to Nettie Moffat; they were blessed with four children, one passing away in infancy. He was also preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Floyd, of Tacoma, Washington, Mrs. Merle Jobe, of Cherokee, and Mrs. Al Circlehart, of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren; one sister and three brothers; and many other relatives and friends (Alta Advertiser, 8-22-1940).
