March 21, 1957 - February 20, 2011
Newell, Iowa

Penny Sievers, age 53, of Newell, Iowa, died February 20, 2011, at her home in Newell.

Penny was born March 21, 1957, in Sandwich, Illinois, the daughter of Terry and Marcene Johnson. She grew up on a farm North of Shenandoah, Iowa, where she attended Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1975. Following high school graduation, Penny received an associates degree from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

Most recently employed at the Buena Vista Clinic, Penny worked as a medical assistant. Happiest while with people and helping others, she enjoyed the friendships she made through her employment. She also shared her smile as a volunteer at the hospital. There, she enjoyed the friendships she made with her Bosom Body Buddies and the trips she took with her “Gray hairs.” To express her loving concern for others affected by cancer, she started the ”I Will Not Worry Foundation.” In 2009, she was honored to receive the June E. Nylen star award for her work. On her own time, Penny enjoyed cooking, flower arranging and, most of all, chachinging.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Cory (Tracie) Sievers, of Collins, Iowa, and Josh (Laura) Sievers, of Alton, Iowa; her grandchildren: Nicole and Drake Ross, of Collins, Iowa, and Owen and Marshall Sievers, of Alton, Iowa; her parents, Terry and Marcene Johnson, of Shenandoah, Iowa; her sisters, Tammy (Dennis) Grebert, of Shenandoah, Iowa, Rox (Randy) Herrick, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Traci (Tom) Campin, of Cresent, Iowa; several nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Penny has been an inspiration to so many people, who will always cherish their memories of her life.
