Ellen Tyra Jensen Nielsen was born in Coleridge, Nebraska, on November 14, 1914, to Paul and Ottomine Jensen. She spent most of her adult life in and around Silver Creek, Galva and Storm Lake before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1985 where she spent the rest of her life.
Ellen Nielsen passed away on January 22, 2011, in Peoria, Arizona, at the tender age of 96 years, 2 months and 8 days.
Survivors include eight children: Gene, George (Taeko), Joyce (Charles Bunce), Alice (Terrell Bear), James, Virginia (Ramon Johnson), Joan (David McCullough), and John (Jane); eighteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren; a brother, Francis (Shirley) Larsen, of Correctionville; a sister-in-law, Harriet Jensen, of Cartersville, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a stillborn son, two grandsons and a stillborn great grandson; four sisters and three brothers.
Ellen's Celebration of Life was held on January 26, 2011, at the Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix, Arizona, with Pastor Rowdy Van Horne officiating. Rodney Zabel was the soloist. Ellen's final resting place will be in the Galva cemetery.
