Phyllis J. Brown
February 8, 1932 - April 28, 2004

Phyllis Jeannie Brown, daughter of Violet Stanton Wetherell, was born February 8, 1932, in Primghar. She attended school in Calumet and Sutherland. Phyllis was raised by her grandma and grandpa Stanton and was a lifelong resident of northwest Iowa.

On October 6, 1947, Phyllis married Darold A. Brown in Jackson, Minnesota. Six children were born to this union. They resided in Marathon and Laurens and later in Ruthven where they made their home for many years. Phyllis owned and operated a restaurant in Marathon and later worked at the restaurant in Ruthven. She was also employed at Stubbs Ranch Kitchen in Spencer. Phyllis spent many falls working at the Clay County Fair which she truly enjoyed and looked forward to.

Phyllis was a member of the Ruthven American Legion and of the Neighborhood Watch Program. She recently received an award from the Governor for her participation that organization. She was active in Bully Bullhead Weekend and delighted in riding in the hot air balloons. She enjoyed cooking and going for boat rides. Phyllis also loved riding in a convertible with the top down.

Phyllis died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the Mercy Health Center in Sioux City at the age of 72.

She is survived by her children, Wayne (Marilyn) Brown, of Luverne, Minnesota, Darrell Dean Brown (Marie), of Hills, Minnesota, Linda Chada (Charles), of Albert City, Sandra Sample Brown, of Havelock, Terry Wayne Brown, Sr., of Ruthven, and Darold A. Brown, Jr., (Brenda) of Albert City; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; her brothers, Glen (Norene), Paul (Carol), Denny (Fay), Bill (Connie), Cliff (Ruby), and Dale (Rose); her sisters, Shirley (George) Francis, Carol (Dale) Culp, Sharron (Larry) Hawkin, Helen Fredricks and Berniece Hecke; as well as by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Marge, Mary Kathryn, and Darlene; and her brothers, Charles Richard and Burton.

Funeral services for Phyliss J. Brown will be held Saturday, May 1, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Luther Thoresen officiating. Interment will be at the North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer. Arrangements are by the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
