LaVerne Dierenfield, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Sunday, January 30, 2011, at the Sunset Knoll Care Center in Aurelia, Iowa.

Clara LaVerne Dierenfield was born in Crofton, Nebraska, on June 10, 1919, to Joseph and Mary Kelly Ahart. At the age of five, she moved with her parents to Aurora, Colorado. She attended schools in Aurora and Ft. Morgon. In 1930, the family moved to a farm near Early, Iowa. She attended school in Early and Sulphur Springs before graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1936.

On September 1, 1937, LaVerne married Walter Dierenfield at the Peace Lutheran Church parsonage in Wall Lake, Reverend Adolf Schwidder officiating. To this union four children were born: Sharon, Ron, Diane, and Marilyn.

LaVerne was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 24, 1939, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa, by Reverend Frederick Kruetz.

They lived on a farm south of Schaller until the fall of 1947 when they moved to their farm northwest of Storm Lake.

LaVerne's life centered around her family and her church where she was a member of Ladies Aid Society, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), the Adult Bible Class, and the Mission Sewing Circle. For many years, she helped prepare meals for the mid-week school children. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Sharon (Larry) Huntley, of Sloan, Iowa, Ron (Ellen) Dierenfield, of Alta, Iowa, Diane Krueger of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mary (Ethan) Lindsey, of Spencer, Iowa; her step-son, Eugene (Toni) Dierenfield, of California, Missouri; her grandchildren: Lawrence and Theresa Dierenfield, Russ Dierenfield, David and Mark Huntley, Linda Johnson, Susan Lindsey, Jim, Mike and Daniel Krueger, Joni Timm, Tammy Brophy, Todd Olson, Janelle Woldruff, and Jason Anderson; twenty-eight great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; her brother, Reverend Neil (Marjorie) Ahart of Hartley, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Wesley Wadsworth of San Francisco, California; as well as extended family and friends.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; two sisters, Doris Gustafson and Kathryn Wadsworth; her brother, Enis Ahart; and her son-in-law, Fred Krueger.

Visitation: 5-8:00 p.m. February 03, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. February 04, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: February 04, 2011, at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, Iowa.
