Willard Christensen, age 75, who had endured a long battle with leukemia, died of a heart attack on January 24, 2011, at the Buena Vista County Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Except for his military service at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he had spent his entire life in the Storm Lake area.

Willard was born July 23, 1935, to Walter and Lena (Hensel) Christensen near Storm Lake. He graduated in 1953 from Highview Consolidated School, near Linn Grove, Iowa. During his early career, he did excavation work with Redig Excavation. Later, he formed his own company, Christensen Landscaping, which he ran for nearly 50 years.

Willard married Florence (Miller) Christensen on May 29, 1957. They are the parents of three sons: Jay (Karla) Christensen, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Jeff (Stacey) Christensen, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kody (Rhonda) Christensen, of Atlanta, Georgia. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Megan (Joe) Kissner, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jack and Sam Christensen, of Birmingham, Alabama, Carter Christensen, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Logan Christensen, of Atlanta, Georgia; one great grandson, Conner Christensen, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one sister, Elma Hansen, of Scottsdale, Arizona, his brothers-in-law, John (Mary) Miller, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jim (Jan) Miller, of Kingman, Arizona; and his sister-in-law, Marjorie Miller, of Rembrandt, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his brothers, Harold, Carvel, and Norman, who died in infancy; and his sister, Irene.

Visitation: 4-8:00 p.m. January 27, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. January 28, 2011, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: January 28, 2011, at Elk Township Cemetery in rural Alta, Iowa.
