Melvin Peters, age 81, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at his home in Storm Lake.

Melvin Peters was born April 25, 1929, in Lake View, Iowa, the son of Claus and Belle (Jensen) Peters. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Sac City, Iowa. He attended school in Terrill, Iowa, where he graduated.

On September 9, 1946, Melvin entered the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country until he was honorably discharged on August 2, 1949.

On June 25, 1950, Melvin was united in marriage to Carol Meyer in Sac City, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: David, Dennis, and Doug.

Melvin enjoyed being outdoors where he could fish and camp. He loved traveling and square dancing. Melvin treasured his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carol Peters, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: David (Lori) Peters, of Kingsley, Iowa, Dennis (Margaret) Peters, of Parsippany, New Jersey, and Doug (Joanne) Peters, of Newell, Iowa; his grandchildren: Daniel (Rachel) Peters, of Richardson, Texas, Christopher (Amanda) Peters, of Van Wert, Ohio, Chad Peters, of Loveland, Colorado, Michael (Stephanie) Peters, of Marcus, Iowa, Brittany (Dan) Wenrick, of Watford City, North Dakota, and Lindsey Peters, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; four great grandchildren; his brothers: Howard Peters, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Lyle Peters, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Donald Peters of Washburn, Iowa; his sisters: Judy (John) Lympus, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Wanda Martin, of Independence, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Margaret Meyer, of Wall Lake, Iowa; and extended family and friends.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Vicki (Al) Arnett, Eunice Crosser, Sharon O’Neil, and an infant sister, Ina Mae Peters.

Visitation: 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. January 26, 2011, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. January 27, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Interment: January 27, 2011, at Wall Lake Cemetery in Wall Lake, Iowa.
