John Richter, age 61, of Newell, Iowa, ended his life’s journey on Friday, January 21, 2011, after a four year battle with cancer.
John Ray Richter was born May 30, 1949, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Lois (Jansen) Richter.
Growing up, John attended school in Albert City, graduating from Albert City – Truesdale High School in 1967. Following high school graduation, John attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.
On August 31, 1968, John was united in marriage to Robyn Ocheltree at the United Church of Christ in rural Newell. They were blessed with three children: Kelly, Adam, and Kayla.
John served in the Iowa National Guard for six years. He and Robyn were dedicated to farming from 1974 until retiring in 2007.
John enjoyed fishing and golfing. He loved woodworking and building furniture for his family. His last project was to make toy boxes for his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed following his only grandson’s sporting events and having tea parties with his granddaughters. John treasured his family and spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Robyn Richter, of Newell, Iowa; his children: Kelly (Scott) Bundt, of Sac City, Iowa, Adam (Shandra) Richter, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Kayla (Matt) McCarthy, of Newell, Iowa; his grandchildren: Matt, Kelsey, Abbey, Halee, Emma, Beau, and Ava; his brothers: Jerry (Ruth) Richter, of Newell, Iowa, amd David (Susan) Richter, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and his nieces, nephews, and extended family and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Jeff Richter.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. January 26, 2011, at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa.
