Verna Edna Herpst
November 26, 1919 - March 9, 2004Verna Edna Herpst, Storm Lake, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Buena Vista Manor at the age of 84 years, three months and 12 days.
Verna Stieghost, a daughter of Henry Gustave and Matilda Emily (Stoelting) Stieghost, was born on November 26, 1919, in Eden Township, Sac County.
She was baptized in infancy at Immanual Reformed Church and attended and graduated from Hayes Consolidated School on May 28, 1936.
Verna lived most of her life in the Alta and Storm Lake communities.
She thoroughly enjoyed dogs of all kinds. She worked at various occupations during her life including cleaning houses and offices, restaurant waitressing, and cooking.
On April 4, 1950, Verna was united in marriage to Henry George Herpst. The couple operated a salvage yard at Casino Beach.
In June of 1999, for health reasons, Verna chose to make her home at the Buena Vista Manor. She was well liked and will be missed by those at the manor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; and her brother, Raymond Stieghorst.
Verna is survived by her sister-in-law, Esther Lamb, of Storm Lake; her nieces, Diane and Gary Christiansen, of Peterson, Donna and David Dose, of Storm Lake, and Darlene and Blaine Perry, of Aurelia; other nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Verna were held on Friday, March 12, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in Alta with Rev. Henry W. Huddleston officiating. Burial was at Buena Vista Memorial Park in Storm Lake.
