October 31, 1931 - March 20, 2004

Wayne A. Hanson, age 72, of Newell, formerly of Albert City, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

The son of Wilford and Effie (Torkelson) Hanson, Wayne Allen Hanson was born on October 31, 1931, on a farm south of Sioux Rapids. One of six children, he was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. In addition, Wayne completed his schooling and graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1950.

In 1951, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country with honor in the Korean War. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged on March 16, 1955.

Upon his discharge, Wayne met and fell in love with Ardyce E. Kruckman. On September 3, 1955, they were united in marriage in Jackson, Minnesota, and this union was blessed with four children: Bryan, Brenda, Brent and Michelle.

Wayne and Ardyce raised their family in the Sioux Rapids area where Wayne worked as a farm hand, truck driver and school custodian. He retired in 1985. While in retirement, Wayne and Ardyce moved to Albert City to work at the Sliefert Funeral Home. For seventeen years, they lived at the funeral home and provided sincere and professional care to many, many families. It was also during this time that Wayne's health became a concern, and for nearly two decades, Ardyce was his constant support.

His Christian faith was an important part of Wayne's life, and he was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City.

When he was not working, Wayne enjoyed reading and watching sports of all kinds. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. But most of all, Wayne cherished spending time with his family who loved him very much. Nothing brought him greater joy than being with his children and grandchildren. Wayne will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Wayne is survived by his wife of over forty-eight years, Ardyce Hanson, of Newell; his four children: Bryan Hanson, and his wife, Sandra, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brenda Bjorklund, and her husband, Paul, of Newell, Brent Hanson, and his wife, Lori, of St. Peter, Minnesota, and Michelle Epperson, and her husband, Trent, of Chillicothe, Missouri; seven grandchildren: Jason and Kara Bjorklund, Jeff and Lacey Hanson, Katie and Kelli Hanson, and Marcella Epperson; three brothers: Roger Hanson, and his wife, Lois, of Loveland, Colorado, Calvin Hanson, and his wife, Dee, of Loveland, Colorado, and Julius Hanson, and his wife, Skeets, of Windsor, Colorado; two sisters: Wilma Wenck, of Cherokee, and Phyllis Coulter, and her husband, LeRoy, of Loveland, Colorado; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Wilford and Effie Hanson.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids with Military Rites provided by the American Legion Post No. 394.
