George (Dick) Kidman
May 7, 1921 - October 5, 2003George (Dick) Kidman, Major, USAF retired, passed away October 5, 2003. Dick was born May 7, 1921, in Rembrandt. He came to Reno in 1939 and always considered Nevada his home.
Dick always had a passion for flying and received his private flying license in Reno when he was only 20 years old. Plying a B17 during World War II, he flew 51 missions out of North Africa. He was a member of the world famous 99th Bomb Group. After returning home from overseas, he was a B25 and B29 instructor at Sioux City AFB. Called to service in 1951, he was one of the original members of the Nevada National Air Guard.
Dick also served his country in Viet Nam where he flew Cl21 reconnaissance aircraft. Throughout his 26 year Air Force career, he flew the equivalent of one and one-half trips to the moon.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Adele, of Reno; his daughters, Leah Marlynn Fay, Karen Stokes, and Carla Ziegler; his three sons-in-law and six grandchildren; his three sisters, Rosella Avansino, Leah Jennett and Elizabeth Gunn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Kidman, and his mother, Mabel Sauter; his brother, Marvin Kidman, and his sister, Dorothy Powell.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in Reno on October 18, 2003, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
