Henry G. Ivers
July 11, 1919 - December 21, 2003

The son of Christian John and Anna (Andresen) Ivers, Henry George Ivers, of Schaller and formerly of Storm Lake, was born July 11, 1919, on a farm southeast of Rushmore, Minnesota.

He was baptized in Rushmore, Minnesota, on August 24, 1919, with Pastor Martin Heineck officiating. He subsequently renewed his baptismal vows in the rite of confirmation on June 13, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Pastor H. P. Schmidt officiating.

He received his primary education in the Rushmore, Worthington, Ocheyedan and Rembrandt schools. He received his high school education and diploma from Storm Lake High School in 1938.

On June 1, 1941, he was united in marriage with June Lois Sohm in a ceremony at the home of her parents in Storm Lake with the Rev. H. P. Schmidt officiating. The couple resided in Storm Lake all of their married life. Three children were born to the union. On December 24th, 1985, June passed away.

The couple took over the successful family locker business and built a new building in 1951. Henry (Heinie) closed its doors and retired in 1991. He continued working in the business community, however, as assistant manager at the Pronto convenience store.

Henry and June were charter members of Grace Lutheran Church, built in 1951. Both were active in the church; Heinie held numerous offices and volunteered his time in various capacities.

He was also a charter member of the Storm Lake Lions Club, established in 1962.

Heinie found love and companionship with Arleen Madsen; they were united in marriage on February 27, 1987. Heinie was blessed with an expanded family of twelve children with their spouses and children.

Arleen and Heinie resided on a small acreage outside Schaller where he enjoyed tending his yard, gardening, and participating in the 500 Card Club. He also found enjoyment in wood working in their basement where he created wooden toys, mailbox signs and small furniture pieces.

Heinie passed away at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center on December 21, 2003, after a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Preceding him in death were his wife, June Ivers; his sister, Malvina Yahnke; his parents, Chris and Anna Ivers; and a stepson, Mike Madsen.

Survivors include his wife, Arleen; three children: Pearl Dvorkin, and her husband, Alan, of Tyler, Texas; Henry Ivers, and his wife, Sandy, of Storm Lake, Lois Holmes, and her husband, Dwain, of Ecuador; his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his eleven step-children: Carolyn Hunter, and her husband, Jim, of Arlington, Texas, Susan Naberhaus, and her husband, Ed, of Storm Lake, Joyce Huster, and her husband, Duane, of Lytton, Janet Madsen, of Peoria, Arizona, Don Madsen, of Santa Clara, California, Pat Babcock, of Sun City West, Arizona, Nancy Overmohle, and her husband, Don, of Schaller; Shirley Adams, and her husband, Keith, of Galva, Jim Madsen, of Galva, Pam Adams, of Indianola, and Lori Meyers, and her husband, David, of Smithville, Missouri; his twenty-one step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
