Marvin C. Johnson, age 86, of Newell, Iowa, entered the kingdom of God on November 29, 2010, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Marvin C. Johnson was born August 5, 1924, in Laurens, Iowa, the son of G.W.E. and Sylvia (Weeks) Johnson. He was baptized into the Christian faith. Growing up, Marvin attended school in Laurens, graduating from Laurens High School in 1943.

On May 15, 1943, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army Air Force where he served his country during World War II until he was honorably discharged on February 20, 1946.

On October 13, 1946, Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Smith in Laurens. Together, they were blessed with five children: Steve, Sue, William, Marilee, and Marilyn.

Marvin was an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Newell. He belonged to the Newell American Legion and was a volunteer fireman for 25 years. Marvin enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, dominos and board games. He loved his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary, of 64 years; children: Steve Johnson, of Pomeroy, Iowa; Sue (Tim) Christiansen, of Ashton, Iowa; Marilee (Delbert) Knerr, of Columbia, Missouri; Marilyn Christiansen, of Winfield, Iowa; his grandchildren: Chris Johnson, Jason (Vanessa) Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Lynn Johnson, Ona (Jeff) Johnson, Ami Steffen, Jared (Sarah) Knerr, Zachary Knerr, Caleb Knerr, Amanda Knerr, Jacob Knerr, Elizabeth Knerr, Grace Knerr, and Kelsey Christiansen; thirteen great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Alice Simonsen, of Oxford, Iowa; his brother, Lowell (Jean) Johnson, of Urbandale, Iowa; as well as extended family and many friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William; his sister, Helen; and his brothers, Charles and Wendell.

Visitation: 4-6:00 p.m. December 02, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, Iowa
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. December 03, 2010, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa
Interment: December 03, 2010, at Newell Cemetery in Newell, Iowa
