George C. Thomas, age 78, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 29, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

George C. Thomas II, the youngest of seven boys, was born June 11, 1932, on the family farm in Wessington, South Dakota, the son of George and Ada (DeLong) Thomas. Growing up, George attended Beadle County Country School. First and foremost, however, George was a farmer.

On November 1, 1953, George enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in the Arctic and served his country during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged on November 17, 1955. After the Army, George returned to the farm.

On July 24, 1965, George was united in marriage to Ann Quinn in Huron, South Dakota. Together, they were blessed with five children: Lorie Ann, Patrick Joseph, George Clair III, Garth Andrew, and Elizabeth Ann.

George enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, planting trees, woodworking, and mowing. He loved his family and especially enjoyed traveling to see the kids.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Ann, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Lorie Thomas, of El Paso, Texas; Patrick (Anke) Thomas, of Yelm, Washington, and their children, Patrick and Penelope; George (Hilda) Thomas of El Paso, Texas, and their children, Xavier and Loghan; Garth (Karina) Thomas of Juarez, Mexico, and their children: Carla, Garth Jr., and Kathryn; Elizabeth (Alejandro) Chavez of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and their children: Jessica, Maria, Ashley and Alexandra; his brother, William (Elsie) Thomas, of Springfield, Oregon; his sisters-in-law: Audrey, Mary and Ruth Thomas, all of Huron, South Dakota; as well as extended family and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ada; his brothers: Richard, Francis, James, Merlyn and Marion.

Visitation: 5-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. December 03, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. December 04, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa
Vigil Service: 7:00 p.m. December 03, 2010, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa
Interment: December 04, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery in Huron, South Dakota
