Paul A. Dlugosch, age 94, a lifelong resident of Storm Lake, Iowa, died November 23, 2010.

Paul Albert Dlugosch was born August 6, 1916, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Louis and Bertha (Hughes) Dlugosch. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake where he remained a faithful member.

Growing up, Paul attended school at St. Mary's. Following graduation, he went on to attend Chillicothe Business School in Chillicothe, Missouri, where he earned a degree in Business.

On July 1, 1941, Paul was united in marriage to Byrdena "Birdie" Elbert at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with three children: Paul John, Susan and Anne.

On July 29, 1942, Paul entered the United States Army Air Corps where he served his country during World War II. While serving, Paul, a 1st Lieutenant, became a decorated B24 Bomber Pilot, earning three Bronze Stars. He was very proud of his service record, having flown thirty-five missions without ever losing a crew member.

In his business career, Paul worked his way up to President of Royal Industries, also known as Noble Manufacturing, in Sac City, Iowa. Paul was a charter member of the Elks Club.

Everything Paul did for Storm Lake was done out of love for his hometown. An outstanding golfer, he was a founding member of the Lake Creek Country Club, serving as Vice President. Paul instituted the Lake Creek Double I Bash, which brought many Hawkeyes to the Club. A devoted Iowa Hawkeye fan, he earned a Hawk of the Year Award in 2004 which recognized him for his outstanding service to the University. Paul also treasured spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Paul is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Birdie, of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Paul John (Joyce) Dlugosch, of Fort Meyers, Florida, Susan (Patrick) Ormsby, of Chicago, Illinois, and Anne (Kevin) McGrath, of Chicago, Illinois; his eleven grandchildren: Paul Albert (Andrea) Dlugosch II, Peter (Kelly) Dlugosch, Mindy (Paul) Purcell, Lisa (Teddy) Sampson, Jennifer Armstrong, Patrick (Susan) Ormsby, Christopher (Raechel) Ormsby, Kevin McGrath, Timothy McGrath, Brian (Elizabeth) McGrath, and Molly McGrath; his sixteen great grandchildren; and his extended family and many friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bertha Dlugosch, and three brothers: Donald, Roy, and John.
