Elva E. Johnson, age 100, of Albert City, passed away Friday, September 12, 2003, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Elva Elizabeth Johnson, one of twelve children of John P. and Louise (Johnson) Moline, was born on April 29, 1903, in Fairfield Township, Buena Vista County. She walked two miles each day to country school in rural Albert City and completed the eighth grade. At the age of 17, she worked as a clerk at the Scandia Trading Company in Albert City and remained there until she married two years later.

On April 21,1923, Elva was united in marriage with Arthur T. Johnson, and this union was blessed with two daughters, Dorothy and Norma. She raised her family on a farm in rural Albert City, and for 30 years, she helped her husband with all the farming chores. Later in life, she was a cook at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Elva enjoyed many hobbies including quilting and crocheting. Most of all, however, she enjoyed raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Elva's strong Christian faith was important to her. She served the Lord with a willing heart, helping the church in anyway she could. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. She also belonged to the Mayview Club and the Community Club.

Preceding Elva in death were her parents; her husband, Arthur, in 1984, and her eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors including two daughters: Dorothy Nordlund, and her husband, Roland, of Albert City and Norma Smith, and her husband, Paul, of Storm Lake; twelve grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City with Reverend David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church starting at 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. The Sliefert ~ Asmus Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
